Cutting Edge Dry Eye Treatment Now Offered At Mill Creek Family Eye Center!

Let’s face it, dealing with chronic dry eye is MISERABLE. At Mill Creek Family Eye Center we have a multitude of treatment modalities to help our patients manage their chronic dry eye condition. We are excited to formally announce the addition of LipiFlow, a cutting edge medical device utilizing the latest research and technology, to our arsenal of dry eye treatment options now offered to patients! Mill Creek Family Eye Center is one of only two practices in all of Snohomish County to offer this cutting edge treatment option.

So how does the LipiFlow system work?

  • The procedure utilizes the breakthrough Vector Thermal Pulse Technology™ (VTP)
  • Aside from an anesthetic drop at the start, no drugs are required for the procedure
  • The LipiFlow system safely delivers therapeutic heat to the meibomian glands while guarding the delicate structures of the patient’s eye
  • As a result, the obstructed meibum (an oily substance that prevents evaporation of the eye's tear film) is liquefied and pushed up and out of the gland’s pores
  • The beneficial effects typically lasts anywhere from 1-3 years- sometimes even longer!
  • The procedure typically only lasts 12 minutes per eye

Is the LipiFlow system safe?

Not only is the LipiFlow system completely safe, it has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for dry eye treatment. In the latest clinical study done to evaluate the effectiveness of LipiFlow, roughly 80% of the patients reported dry eye symptom improvement!*

Is LipiFlow painful?

Lipiflow is not painful. Many of our patients describe it as feeling like a gentle, warm massage to the eyes.

Does Insurance cover LipiFlow?

Although most insurance companies will not cover the cost of LipiFlow at this time, some of our patients feel that the convenience of LipiFlow (a fast and simple treatment procedure vs. medication or eyedrops) is worth the investment. Call now to schedule a dry eye evaluation with one of our Optometrists in Mill Creek, and they will discuss the many options that you have as a patient to combat  your dry eye symptoms, including LipiFlow!
